First you need the SECOND GENERATION of the Apple iPod Touch from Apple and a
microphone.
- The FIRST (1G) GENERATION iPod Touch does not support a microphone via the headphone jack...
Print out this user account FORM, you will thank me later !!!
IN-FLIGHT:
Install Fring on your IPOD then run it and make an account.
Install Gizmo5 on your COMPUTER and make an account.
- All we want from Gizmo is a free SIP number.
- You do NOT have to give them any money.
Install Skype on your COMPUTER and make an account.
- I suggest you give Skype 10 bucks.
- We will use Skype to make all our OUT BOUND calls to normal phones.
Take the SIP number given to you by Gizmo5 (above), and ask for a free POT phone number from
ipkall.
REMEMBER, ipkall will DELETE your account if not USED for 30 days !!!!
This will take about 24 hrs.
You can choose from a few prefexes in the Seatle Washington area.
Give this POT number to your NON-Skype frineds so they can call you.
I have a sample of the IPkAll signup screen HERE (i would PRINT this out too if i were you).
Now run Fring on your iPod and goto the "add-ons" section:
- Select SIP, and then enter your Gizmo account info you got above (used for inbound POT calls).
- In Skype section, enter the required from above (used for outbound POT calls).
If all goes well, your Fring "Add-on" screen should look like the pic below,
POST-FLIGHT:
OK we are all done, why not make a few calls !
Remember, we now have THREE clients that help us make FREE phone calls:
Fring, which we use as a front end to all. By itself, it can make Fring to Fring calls too.
Skype, the "Skype-Out" options is NOT free, but could make all this VoIP stuff very easy.
Nimbuzz, the new kid on the block, like Fring but maybe better.
It has a lot more SIP carriers then Fring. Assorted information on microphones for your 2G iPod Touch.
