R.I.P.

To do BASIC changes to a users account:

  • To enable and dis-able the root account, you now need to use the tool called,
    open "/Applications/Utilities/Directory Utility.app"

Which has been MOVED to /System/Library/CoreServices/ in 10.6.x
    open "/System/Library/CoreServices/Directory Utility.app"

    But if you want to:
    1. Manage a lost or forgotten root password.
    2. See and manage all the "hidden" accounts and groups.
    3. Totaly mess up your Mac, see below....
    4. You will need to DOWNLOAD and use the FREE server tool called Workgroup Manager.
      - Which is part of the Server Admin Tools package.

    USAGE:
  • FIRST, tell "Workgroup Manager" to attach to localhost.
  • SECOND, enable the pull down "Show System Users and Groups" option.
  • THIRD, you will see a lot of stuff, use the SEARCH box to find "ClamAV" etc. Manage.jpg
